Winter Wonderland

My husband and I visited Snowshoe, WV in January 2009. It was such a foggy weekend. The fog never lifted the entire time we were there. While on a walk near the condo I was compelled to take some pictures. The setting was so eery. It was completely quiet and visibility was somewhat poor. It felt surreal. Later, on the walk, the sun started setting. The sky was the most beaitful colors of pink and purple.

These pictures were taken during a recent trip to NYC. I was there for the weekend, and due to an unforunate flight cancellation we ended up staying an extra night. Fortunately, we made our way up to the Bronx, to the New York Botanical Gardens. They were exhibiting a wonderfrul display of orchids. I took so many shots, playing with the macro setting on my camera. Some of my favorites are here.
I really like the one on the right. The inside of the flower looks like a little skull. It was such an interesting plant. I really enjoy trying to get as close up as possible.

The pink flower is so gorgeous! The inside is so interesting. It reminds me of a Georgia O'Keefe painting.
The little flowers below are super fun. The look like little tribal members with elaborate head-masks. I thought they were so pretty and dainty, but when you get up close it's as if they are protecting their territory, and warning you not to get any closer.
